⬡ JOIN THE MONCHUMS DISCORD — playtests, build-a-chum events, balance arguments, and the road to a full release. Come be part of it :)

⬢ HOW TO PLAY

Kill enemies by bringing their HP to exactly 0. Any damage past 0 comes back and hits your own attacker — overkilling is how you lose runs. Exact zeros also pay triple the loot, so the whole game is about lining up clean hits.

Your chums

Each monchum has a type (the math symbol on its icon) and a Count, the number it attacks with. The Count changes every turn based on the type:

  • Additive (+) goes up a little each turn.
  • Subtractive (−) starts high and drops off.
  • Multiplicative (×) doubles each turn.
  • Divide (÷) flares bright, then halves every turn.
  • Constant (≡) holds steady, turn after turn.

Enemies follow the same rules. Their attack number grows by their own type every turn.

A battle turn

  1. You draw a hand of modifier cards (Plus, Minus, Times, Divide...).
  2. Drag cards onto your monchums or the enemies to change their numbers. You can lower an enemy's attack, or set up your own attacker to land exactly on 0.
  3. Press FIGHT. Your party attacks front to back, then the enemies attack. Cards you didn't play are discarded.
  4. Undo / Redo, bottom of the battle screen: card plays can be undone freely until you press FIGHT.

Want every stat in the game — all nine chums, fourteen enemies, 25 cards and 8 potions, with the real shipped numbers? Read the v1.0 Codex in our devlog.

Definitely agree – it’s on the first to add list as soon as we start development back up :)

Love the creature designs!

Thanks! Glad you like them! You can credit mostly Amber there, she’s absolutely insanely talented and was basically a speed printer for the character design process. Took me about 40 minutes per character or so, and she had like 16 done by the time I was done with 3 – so definitely couldn’t have done it without her.
